The experience of being in Spectrum Scholars varies year to year. Students receiving comprehensive services meet with Spectrum Scholars staff regularly.

Incoming first-year students attend Spectrum Scholars Summer Orientation, an 8-week series of information sessions about different topics related to University of Delaware and college transition. This summer orientation builds off New Student Orientation and connects students directly to key campus partners and resources.

During academic semesters, students work with coaches in scheduled weekly meetings where they set up for college success, seek out support, and strengthen executive functioning skills, among other topics.

In all cases, students are the drivers of coaching sessions, which include topics ranging from academics and self-advocacy to career development and social engagement.

Students explore career development by shadowing employers during Disability Mentoring Week and achieving progressive career opportunities with the support of the career counselor.

Students meet weekly with peer mentors, other UD students who support Spectrum Scholars in acclimating to social life on campus.

Students also participate in Group Coaching, a 1-credit course designed to augment individual coaching sessions. Topics vary for Group Coaching based on the year in which the student is currently enrolled.
