Speech-language pathologist and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) specialist Dick Lytton was hired by CDS this week to enhance the center’s support for people with communication challenges.

A former president of the United States Society for Augmentative and Alternative Communication, Lytton brings “a national reputation for excellence,” says CDS director Beth Mineo.

Lytton will lend his expertise with AAC devices, which enable people who are nonverbal to communicate, to CDS programs including the Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative, the Early Childhood Assistive Technology Demonstration, the Delaware Network for Excellence in Autism and the Systematic Processes for Enhancing and Assessing Communication Supports Project. He will also conduct AAC trainings and evaluations and work in the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic on UD’s STAR Campus.

Lytton comes to CDS from A. I. duPont Hospital for Children/Nemours, where he spent decades as a clinician and established the hospital’s assistive technology program.
