Special Olympics Delaware holds its 48th annual Summer Games

Special Olympics Delaware hosts its 48th annual summer games at the University of Delaware’s athletic complex this week. More than 600 children and adults with disabilities from across the state will compete in six sports. Approximately 140 coaches and 1,000 volunteers also will take part.

The U.S. Department of Education reports that 6.7 million students with disabilities received special ed services during the 2015-2016 school year, up from 6.6 million the previous year and accounting for 13.2 percent of all students.
