Comparison of Nutrition Guidelines between the Pediatric Nutrition Care Manual and the Children with Special Health Care Needs Pocket Guide

Nutrition is an important component of health care for children with developmental disabilities (DD). Standards for nutrition care of individuals with DD are established for Registered Dietitians/ Nutritionists (RDNs) in the Pediatric Nutrition Care Manual (PNCM) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Information provided in the PNCM is the standard of care for all infants and children at children’s hospitals and outpatient healthcare centers across the United States. The Pediatric Nutrition Practice Group (PNPG), made up of individuals in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics with pediatric nutrition expertise, also develops pediatric publications such as pocket guides and handbooks; these publications are overseen by the PNPG Publications Committee.
