Deaf 2023 Super Bowl performers make history signing in ASL and North American Indian Sign Language: ‘Truly lifting every voice’

Oscar-winning CODA actor Troy Kotsur, deaf indigenous scholar Colin Denny and deaf TikTok sensation Justina Miles accompanied pregame performances at the Super Bowl. Kotsur signed “The Star Spangled Banner,” Denny used Plains Indian Sign Language in his performance of “American the Beautiful” and Miles interpreted "Lift Every Voice and Sing,” the song known as the Black national anthem.
