Bio:

Dr. Sarah Curtiss is the coordinator of Access:Ability Scholars and the Disability Studies minor. Both of these programs are for University of Delaware undergraduates and support students in exploring disability in relation to their academic, professional, and personal interests.

She is also an assistant professor in the School of Education, specializing in special education. As the principal investigator of the Autism in Context research lab, she examines how the systems that affect youth with disabilities are best supported to foster positive development and resilience. Her research is applied and informed by community partners, which has led to work in sex education, family mealtimes, and the transition to adulthood.

Dr. Curtiss received her Ph.D. at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Human Development and Family Studies. She completed a post-doc at Michigan State University in multi-disciplinary and international autism research. During her post-doc, she was a visiting scholar at Trinity College in Dublin. Prior to her doctoral studies, she managed a vocational day program for adults with developmental disabilities. She lives in Newark with her two children and enjoys riding her bike to campus.
