Judy Heumann, Who Led the Fight for Disability Rights, Dies at 75

Heumann, a storied defender of disability rights, organized the 1977 San Francisco sit-in that helped force the implementation of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, a significant move toward the Americans with Disabilities Act. She served as an official in the Clinton administration and a special adviser in the Obama administration in addition to her non-profit works with institutions like the World Bank, the Ford Foundation and Human Rights Watch.
