Coronavirus isolated nursing home residents. Now it might keep them from voting.

Under the proposed Disability Integration Act, individuals with disabilities would have the right to access community-based services and states and insurers would be required to pay support workers adequate wages to prevent workforce shortages that limit access to care in the community. Citing the risk of spreading Covid-19, multiple states are halting voter outreach to long-term care facilities, leaving residents with no way to request or cast absentee ballots. While federal law requires facilities that receive Medicaid or Medicare funding to support residents in voting, there have been very few penalties assessed during the Trump administration.
